The Pattern

I found this pattern in Ravelry, designed by Patons UK (click here for the free pattern) very long time ago and was saved in my do to list / queue for ages. The patterns was in writing and in UK Terminology but my description below will be in US Terminology. Pattern called for 2 colours, but I’m using only 1 colour.

I started this project in mid of 2018 but I leave it aside undone after I finished up the bag body. This bag required only single crochet stitches and pretty boring. If you can’t bare with only 1 type of stitch don’t choose this pattern. But if you looking a project not require lot of attention and can be able to crochet while watching tv, netflic, youtube, reading etc then this is the one to go with. As once you finished up the base where you will need to keep track on the increasing part and counting work, then you will just repeating single crochet all round every row until reach your desire height of the bag. Of course to take note on where you wanted to have the tie and straps.

I Started my tie hole when my bag reach 23cm height; and I worked 3sc , ( ch1, sk 1, 7sc, ch1, sk1, 6sc ) X 9 , ch1, sk 1, 7sc, ch1, sk1, 3sc, slst and ch1.

I followed most of the pattern but with minor change as below ;

  1. The tie I make chain approximate 110cm long then I single crochet a long at the bump of chain make.
  2. For the handle, I bought a Mini Knitting Mill and make 2 straps about 80cm long. Firstly I folded the straps to the desire length, sew them up and attached the mini crochet flowers but I did not like how they turned out. I then removed them and tied them up instead. I’m using Water Bowline tie to secure the joints. Pic below to see the different and for your reference.

I added lining for this bag. Is my very first time experience to sew with sewing machine. Firstly, I cut the fabric in 2 pieces base on the finishes bag size with 1cm seam allowance. One cut base on the base in oval shape, and One base on the body in rectangular shape. I’m not good in sewing so not sharing much here but pic below to show the fabric I’m using for the lining. With checked line on the fabric it does help me as a guide to sew them in straight line.

I’m very happy with the finishes project. I force myself to complete it after 3 years long because I need a new bag ^^!!!
