This blanket is fun & enjoy to hook on. It is made for Alice, my cute little niece. One day, my sister in law showing me the Rainbow “Weighted” Afgan baby blanket designed by Stephanie Pokorny. Once I saw that, I know I must make one for her baby girl. It is so pretty and colourful. I’m more into earthy tone or pastel colour person, but yay baby will be more attracted to colourful and bright colours.

Here I will be sharing on the colours chart arrangement. If you would like to make one, head over to Stephanie’s website for the blanket as well as crochet C2C (corner to corner) instructions, technics & patterns. And yes, it is a free pattern along with a video tutorial.

Stephanie designed the blanket to be used just one ball of yarn for each colour. Which mean, colour change will be only happen when you finished up a ball/skein of yarn. I’m more particular in the colours proportioning(I think this related to my horoscope sign, Libra craves for balancing). So I need to work out a chart and divided the colours equally.

Colours

Choosing or picking colours before started. I picked 8 colours of the rainbow parts. Purple, Blue, Dark Green, Light Green, Yellow, Orange, Red & Pink. Grey for the sky & light yellow for the sun. White for the border. Not counting the border, I will have 10 colours to arrange in this blanket.

The Math

I wanted the blanket to be in Swaddle sizes which is 48″x48″.

My gauge turned out with 13×13 clusters of C2C equal to 8″.

So, here the formula for how many numbers of C2C clusters :

Find out per inch stiches then times/multiply your desire length = ( 13 ÷ 8 ) x 48 = 78 clusters

Now, let arrange the 10 colours inside the C2C squares. Because we are going to crochet Corner to Corner, total numbers of rows for 78 X 78 clusters/grids will be 1 start up cluster + 77 increasing rows + 77 deceasing rows = 155 rows.

I can’t divide 10 colours equally in 155 rows (155 ÷ 10 = 15.5), so I leave the extra 5 rows at sky part which is grey. Refer the chart below, you will be able to see and to understand on the colours proportioning. I make each colour 15 rows and the grey 20 rows. You can download the 👇🏻 chart too.

I’m using milk cotton yarn from Cotton House Store. Listing down here with the approximate amount of yarn I had used for each colour:
