Yarns & Colours

Moda Vera Faux Mo

Yarn I’m using for this skirt is Faux Mo by Moda Vera which can be purchase from Spotlight Store. Is a very light weight mohair and for this skirt I use 2 strand held together with 5.5mm knitting needle. Colour that I picked for this skirt is silver. I wanted white at first but I’m worrying of the transparency so silver instead.

Before Start

Note :

  1. This pattern knit from top down in circular needle. So it is totally seamless.
  2. Start with the 1×1 ribbing and then working with Irish Moss Stitch.
  3. Increase with median increase where we will be knit 1 and purl 1 in a same stitch.
Irish Moss Stitch Chart

Irish Moss Stitch Pattern :

  1. Start with even numbers.
  2. Knit 1 purl 1 for 2 rows.
  3. Purl 1 knit 1 for 2 rows.
  4. Repeat the 4 rows.

Increase instruction :

  1. Start the first increase at the stitch where you need to make a knit stitch.
  2. Knit 1, with the left needle still in the same stitch, bring the working yarn to front and purl 1.
  3. Repeat the same increase for the next stitch (which you suppose to purl).
  4. With this increase you created another set of knit 1 purl 1. (1pair of median increase)

Abbreviations

CO = cast on

BO = bind off

K = knit

K1BL = knit 1 back loop

P = purl

M1 = median increase

sts = stitches

Gauge Calculation

To get your number stitches to cast on, use the calculator below;

You will need your gauge swatch width and your waist measurement.

The default result is for my gauge swatch with 18 sts., 4 inches, and my waist measurement around 26″.

Calculate

Base on the calculation I shall cast on with 118sts for even number, but I make it to 120sts as it is ok to get it slightly bigger because the ribbing will eventually reduce the sizes a little bit.

Pattern

Ribbing – 1×1 ribbing

With 4.5mm needle, cast on the even numbers from the calculation, (120sts)

Place stitch marker at the beginning *K1BL, purl 1*, repeat all round for 2″ (120sts)

Skirt – Irish Moss Stitch (refer to pattern & increase instruction above)

Change to 5.5mm needle,

Row 1 – Working in Irish Moss Stitch and increase 16sts evenly in 8 pairs. (your total number of sts divide by 8)

For my example : I increase at every 14sts or 15sts, 8 times where I need to make a knit stitch. (136sts)

Add in stitch maker while you increasing so that you don’t have to calculate every time at increase row.

Continue in Irish Moss Stitch for another 20 rows.

Repeat increase the same way at every 22th rows (approximate 4″ ) .

Continue until you are happy with the length and then bind off.

I made my increase in total of 5 times at row 88 (200sts), continue in pattern 2 more rows and bind off at row 91. Total length – 17.5″ include ribbing above my knee.

I love this project. About how many do skeins should I get to complete it? I noticed you used two strands held together.
Plmk thanks!

Hi Lida. Yes I’m using two strands held together which equal to Aran weight. If you are making about same size of mine you will need 5 skeins(same yarn) of the yarn.

Hej
Jeg vil så gerne strikke denne skønne nederdel, men forstår ikke ordene “måler bredde” i udregningsskemaet? Hvad er det for et mål?
På forhånd tak
Vh Pia
